Reliable Last Mile Wireless Transmission Powers Mumbai’s Largest CCTV Network

The Challenge

Mumbai Police and L&T Construction set out to implement one of India’s largest citywide surveillance networks. Fibre was the obvious choice, but in dense urban areas it meant heavy civil work, high costs, and long deployment timelines. The project demanded a faster, more flexible last-mile connectivity solution without compromising reliability or security.

The Solution

Wavesight partnered with L&T Construction to deliver robust point-to-point wireless transmission. Over 900 advanced radios were deployed at 408 critical sites, enabling high-capacity, interference-resistant connectivity. These wireless radios provided secure, encrypted links where fibre rollouts were delayed or prohibitively expensive, ensuring continuity of CCTV operations across the city.

The Impact

  • Accelerated deployment by bypassing fibre-related delays with secure wireless transmission
  • Reliable 24/7 video feed from 4,500 surveillance cameras across 1,500 locations
  • Significant cost savings by reducing dependency on civil work and fibre installations
  • Enhanced resilience with urban wireless networking in high-risk or hard-to-reach zones

Outcome

Today, Mumbai’s smart city surveillance infrastructure stands as one of the largest in India, with Wavesight’s wireless backbone delivering secure and reliable connectivity. The project demonstrates how intelligent wireless networking for cities can bridge critical infrastructure gaps and support future-ready urban security.
