Connecting Remote Locations at Mundra Port, Gujarat, India
Introduction
Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), part of the Adani Group, is India’s largest private multi-port operator with a presence across six major ports. At the centre of its operations is Mundra Port in Gujarat, the country’s biggest port and Asia’s largest coal import terminal, handling millions of tonnes of cargo every year. With government approvals for new SEZs and Free Trade Warehousing Zones, APSEZ is rapidly scaling operations to reach an annual capacity of 200 million MT. To support this growth and safeguard critical assets spread across vast, remote areas, the port required a resilient, cost-effective surveillance system. Traditional fibre networks were impractical across such distances, making long-range wireless transmission the ideal solution.
Requirement
- Provide connectivity for numerous CCTV cameras located up to 20 km from the control centre
- Avoid costly fibre optic installation and maintenance across a large industrial area
- Ensure low-latency, reliable video feeds for high-security monitoring
The Solution
- Wipro designed the surveillance architecture and engaged Wavesight to supply the wireless backbone
- Using network planning tools, including Google Earth, a wireless network was modelled to cover the port area
- 16 Wavesight WaveMax N radios were deployed, capable of handling high bandwidth over distances of up to 20 km
- Radios were optimised for low latency to ensure consistent, real-time video transmission
- The result: a cost-effective, reliable and scalable CCTV transmission system without fibre trenching
Building on this success, Wavesight wireless radios have also been deployed with Wipro at other Adani facilities, including Tiroda near Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Kawali near Kota (Rajasthan).
